About the Counselling Service
The Counselling and Wellbeing service work throughout the year to support students in managing their mental health. We are part of Student Services, based in the Carrington Building on Whiteknights campus.
The service offers support via one-to-one sessions (either face to face or over Teams), groups or onward referrals to other support services. We will advise and support you into the right pathway for you. We are open to all registered students (undergraduate or postgraduate) at the University, free of charge.

Our team
We have a team of qualified counsellors, social workers and mental health nurses and counselling placement volunteers. This variety means we can offer a service designed to meet your needs.
Using the service and making an appointment
To make an appointment with the Counselling and Wellbeing team:
- You will first need to register with the service online, by completing this online form.
- Once you are registered, you will be invited to book an initial appointment with a member of the team, either in person or via Teams. They will ask you questions about how you are feeling and any issues you are experiencing. At the end of the meeting they will make a recommendation as to which support service will best suit your needs.
Make sure you check your university email address regularly for communications from the team regarding your appointments. If you do not respond, we will assume you no longer wish to have support and will remove you from our waiting list. Read more in our FAQs
Please note, each new academic year you will need to re-register in order to use the service.
Supporting Statements
From time to time students are asked for supporting statements for a variety of reasons. We, as a service, do not provide these. Should you need a supporting statement please see your GP or external mental health support team. What we can provide is all of your notes, read more in our FAQs
